1. What is so special about silver fibres? How do silver textiles work?

The medical and therapeutic aspects of silver have been known for thousands of years. Even the Romans used the disinfecting and antibacterial effect of pure silver and attributed a “magic property“ for healing wounds to silver. Today, modern medicine recognises silver as one of the most effective natural and anti-microbial aids and uses it for a large number of healthcare products.

Silver which is knitted or woven into silver underwear has an antibacterial and fungicidal effect; it, hence, contributes to natural wound protection and has a positive effect on the skin’s flora.

Micro-organisms need certain preconditions such as food, temperature, moisture and surfaces which should be as large as possible in order to survive. For this reason, textiles worn close to the body, such as underwear, form the ideal habitat for bacteria and fungi. Silver fibres prevent them from settling on the textile surface or lead to a removal of these micro-organisms and, thus, ensure hygiene.

The silver fibre is absolutely harmless since it is coated with pure silver.

Silver has the following properties:

+ anti-microbial, germicide
+ odour-inhibiting
+ promotes evaporation
+ heat reflecting
+ temperature regulating
+ antistatic: screens against electromagnetic radiation
+ therapeutic effect
+ natural effect: non-toxic and does not contain any chemical and pesticide residues
+ help against burns

2. What is the durability of silver textiles/for how long are they effective?

The silver fibre used in our products consists of a polyamide core which is coated with pure silver. This coating permanently connects the silver with the surface. The silver fibre is knitted into the fabric – this ensures that the silver fibre permanently remains in the product. The silver does not lose its effect even after various washing cycles.

In order to generate the best-possible effect on sensitive skin, the textile product should be worn as often as possible close to the skin. The wearing period depends on the severity of the disorder.

3. Are there people who are allergic to silver?

It is known that there are allergies to silver jewellery. However, such jewellery is frequently made of a certain alloy only. Usually, incompatibilities only arise against the other metals contained in silver jewellery, such as e.g. nickel. The Silver-Skin® silver fibre is coated with pure silver and, hence, harmless.

4. How harmless are the products? Which tests have the textiles been submitted to?

The qualities used are based on a development period of more than 4 years.
Laboratory examinations are extremely important in order to prove the biological safety. These tests are based on standardised examinations of medical products.
The qualities examined did not display any biological activity, release of cell-toxic substances and skin-irritating effects.
Both institutes confirm the harmlessness of the Silver-Skin® series for your skin, the test seals guarantee medically tested textiles which are tested for harmful substances.
Moreover, all Silver-Skin® articles bear the Oeco-Tex Standard 100 and the CE label. With the CE label Innovation Vertrieb Beratung Barbara Boss confirms that compliance with the fundamental safety requirements contained in the relevant EU Medical Device Directive (EC 2007/47/EC) is ensured.

The Silver-Skin® products are only treated with organic finishes throughout the entire production process and, hence, do not contain any antibacterial or chemical fabric finishes.

6. Which advantages does the composition of the material provide?

Silver-Skin®: 75% cotton, 25% silver fibre (silver-coated polyamide core)

The fibres used have the following positive properties:

Cotton

- Soft and smooth surface of natural fibres
- Extremely absorbent, takes up moisture and transports it away from the skin
- This counteracts the formation or propagation of bacteria on the skin.
- Easy to clean
- Fully biodegradable

Polyamide

- Crease-resistant
- Scrub-resistant
- Resistant to bacteria and a large number of chemicals

Silver

- Antibacterial, germ-reducing
- Odour-inhibiting
- Promotes evaporation
- Heat permeable
- Temperature regulating
- Antistatic
- Screening and therapeutic fibre

General note:

We would like to draw your attention to the fact that pilling can occur in the Silver-Skin® products over time because of the share of cotton fibres in the products. It is known that qualities made of spun fibres tend to form the so-called pilling.

Pilling is defined as the formation of little knots. These pills consist of knotted individual fibres which become detached from the textile structure through various forms of strain and become visible on the surface. This behaviour is supported, in particular, by the mechanical and thermal strain put on the garments in the washing machine and tumble dryer. For this reason, our Silver-Skin® products are labelled as suitable for air drying only. However, the pilling does not affect the positive effects which our Silver-Skin® textiles have on the skin’s flora, such as e.g. the reduction of pruritus, in any way.

7. How do I find the right size?

Silver-Skin® is available in all common sizes for ladies, men and children.

Simply use our size table as orientation to find the right size for you. Here, you will also find comprehensible measuring instructions which help you in finding the right size for you at the same time.
In principle, care should be taken to ensure that Silver-Skin® underwear is worn close to the skin in order to establish a good contact between the skin and the textile and to ensure the positive effect of the underwear with the silver-coated fibre.
